Do you ever have weeks that go by so fast, you can't seem to keep up? I felt like this whole week was one step ahead of me, and I'm just now catching up and soaking it all in. Here are a few bits and pieces of what has occupied our little selves the past seven days..

Josh helped some of our friends that had a show over the weekend by playing the banjo on a couple of songs. I always enjoy getting to witness him doing what he loves to do more than anything.

We got the keys to our loft today. We hadn't seen it since our first visit, and I'm so happy we can now call it home. This might be the only sneak peek you get for some time; I want it to be fully decorated before I give the whole tour. I couldn't be happier with it.

Leather Pouch | DIY

I've been waiting for today with the utmost anticipation. Today is our weekly "all day date" day. It's a tradition we created when we first said our I do's. We usually begin with the most unhealthy, delicious breakfast we can muster up. While we're off enjoying our day, I thought I'd share a little weekend DIY.

1. Supplies: Leather, floral fabric, leather cord, embroidery thread and needle.

Pantry Supplies: Scissors

2. First, cut the leather into two separate rectangles. These will be the base of your pouch, and the size depends on how large you want the finished product to be. Mine was 9 x 5 inches. Once you've cut them out, round the edges of one of the shorter sides of each piece. This will be the bottom of your pouch. 3. Then, cut out and top stitch a pretty floral pattern to one of the rectangles for the front of the pouch. 4. Next, begin cutting small slits all the way around each section of leather. The distance between each slit will determine how secure the binding of the pouch will be. I cut a slit every 1/2 inch. Lay them on top of one another with the floral side facing up and begin attaching the leather cord through the first hole on the top corner of one leather section. Secure this from slipping with a tight knot. 5. Then, start lacing the cord through the leather by going under and over, securing them together tightly. 6. Continue until you've reached the other side, leaving only one side open which will be the top of your pouch. 7. To attach the draw string, simply take a long piece of cord and weave through each hole until you've come around to the other side. Make sure you have lots of cord left to open and close comfortably. 8. Enjoy your pretty, handmade pouch! xo - k.

Golden Arrow Ring | DIY

Here's a quick little DIY I whipped up just for y.o.u.

Supplies: Leather, glitter canvas (find at your local craft store in the felt section!), two adjustable rings, needle and embroidery thread.

Pantry Supplies: scissors, heavy duty craft glue.

First, cut an arrow slightly bigger than the width from your index finger to your ring finger. Next, cut a strip of leather the same length and width of the widest part of the arrow. Cut slits into the leather and wedge the rings through. You'll want to make sure they are in the correct spot so that the leather lies completely flat once you've put both rings on. Then, secure them from slipping through by sewing the leather tightly around the ring. Once the rings are secure, glue the arrow on top of the leather. Once it's dry, cut off the excess leather around the arrow. You're ready to wear your new arrow ring!

Have you seen what Free People is doing for spring? Once I am convinced they couldn't possibly make anything more beautiful than the previous collection, they prove me wrong. My closet is in dire need of beholding at least one piece from their spring collection.

Geometric Wedges | DIY

I have a hunch that I've made it quite clear that I have an untreatable case of spring fever. To quench my unending lust, I've turned an old pair of thrifted wedges into a newly revamped, spring inspired wedge. Here are all the steps...

Supplies: Wedges (try and thrift them!), card stock, paint.

Pantry Supplies: Paintbrushes, scissors, pencil.

First, cut out a triangle from your card stock. This will be the stencil for your pattern. Then, begin tracing the triangle with a pencil, covering the entire wedge in a pattern. Next, paint! This step is entirely up to the painter's taste on whether to paint every triangle or various triangles. I chose to paint various triangles throughout the pattern, leaving some of the original wedge showing.

Current Obsessions | Spring Inspiration

This weekend has been a much needed relaxing one. Thus far we've had some lovely shopping trips, celebrated two birthdays, had a photo shoot, and spent time with our dearest beloveds. Life was going a little too fast for me this week (doesn't it always seem to pull that trick on us?), so I spent this weekend taking a few steps back to not only take everything in, but sincerely appreciate the life I lead. It's been a breath of fresh air to say the very least.

Spring is just around the corner so I'm currently loving all things floral and what not. Here are a few things that have caught my eye as of late..

I've been booking lots of spring shoots and I am planning on creating lots of pretty floral headpieces to accompany us.

I'm intrigued by the pretty correlations of floral and other various prints. Anthropologie, you've done it again.

Our loft has the prettiest porch where I plan to spend all my summer days gardening about. It's also perfect for summer parties, which I'm also anticipating with extreme excitement.

I've always thought this album cover was so lovely and simple. I love the tunes it beholds even more.

In the middle of writing this post, my husband came home with these lovely flowers and few other sweet surprises. He proudly put together the whole bouquet; so very sweet and cute. I couldn't resist sharing a photo.

Yellow Love | Outfit Post

Yes, I am wearing mustard colored pants. And yes, I positively adore them. The moment I laid eyes on these beauties I couldn't help but dream up all the lovely ways I plan to execute them. I think Josh is still warming up to them a bit. Okay, let's be honest, even I'm still warming up to them a bit. But I refuse to believe they are anything but spectacular.

On a completely unrelated note; I'm getting a new camera lens this week, and I can't wait to put it to good use. It's been on my wishlist for some time now, and it is finally going to be firmly planted in its new home, otherwise known as my camera bag.

My heart is set on nothing but upbeat music during these chilly days. Playlists such as this have a been a sweet help to my cause. What do you do to stay inspired during these cold winter days?

Doily Purse | DIY

It just goes to show, never throw out an old bag. I had become quite tired of this little number and was about to hand it off to the next owner, but I thought I might as well try out an idea I had scribbled in my notebook some time back. I am ever so thankful I did. I think I've officially created a new favorite piece of mine. And you should too! Here's how...

Supplies: Old purse (find one on a thrifting trip!), doily, mod podge, tacky glue or any durable craft/fabric glue.

Pantry Supplies: Scissors, paintbrush.

First, take the tacky glue and apply it in thin increments on the back of the doily. Place it on the corner of the purse and press firmly. Once it dries, carefully cut off the excess by guiding your scissors along the edges of the purse. Lastly, apply a thin top coat of mod podge to secure all the edges in place.

Create Your Own Polaroids | DIY

One of the most beautiful things to me is instant photos. There is something magical about the perfect imperfections they portray. They are also wonderful when you want a unique way to display your most treasured photos. I started a collection of polaroid cameras back in my early days of high school and they are so special to me. I recently received an instax mini as well, which I've grown quite fond.

Here's a way to create your most loved photos into faux instant photos. I certainly couldn't expect everyone to own photo shop, so I wanted to find a free editing software that would do the trick for a simple project such as this. Before beginning this project you will need to install Picasa, a free editing software powered by Google. Once you've installed it onto your computer follow these steps....

1. Upload photos onto Picasa. We chose some of our favorite beach photos from our trip to El Salvador.

2. Go to "Collage".

3. Choose the border that resembles a polaroid.

4. Create more!

5. Arrange them in a suitable manner for printing so that they do not overlap one another.

6. Print it! For best results use photo copy paper or thick card stock.

7. Once it's printed, carefully cut out each photo.

All done! Now, I know this never beats the real thing, but it's a quirky little way to show off your favorite memories, don't you think? :]

The flurries rolled in last night and it's been a winter wonderland ever since. Now I know, always trust a groundhog. The thought of Phil and Rita falling hopelessly, head over heels in love over a 42 day duration should be crossing your mind right about now.

I will admit I had a list of errands I was planning on tackling, but alas, I am firmly planted indoors today. Not that I'm complaining; I've already had my fair share of coffee, books, editing, movies and crafts to last me all week.

Here's a small round up of what this past week has looked like..

When Bespoke Post contacted me about shooting their products, I was more than happy to oblige. Bespoke Post cultivates your mister to "become a man, one box at a time," by sending subscribers monthly boxes full of one-of-a-kind products that will make him stand out in a crowd (only in the best of manners, of course). Clever idea? Unmistakably. Josh's first box contained this eccentric patterned pocket square.

Not All Who Wander Are Lost | Magnet Board DIY

Ever since I laid eyes on this print, I've had the undying itch to create an inspired DIY. Enjoy..

Supplies: Magnetic dry erase board, magnet strips, scrabble pieces, mod podge, paint, map

(Tips* check scrapbook sections at your local craft store for map pages.

Also, look for magnet strips that have an adhesive back, making it easier to apply).

Pantry Supplies: paintbrushes for paint and mod podge, scissors.

Paint the border of your dry erase board the color of your choice. Once it's dry, mod podge the map onto the board. While the board is drying, begin cutting the magnet strip into small squares and apply onto the back of the scrabble pieces. Lastly, decorate!

Today is one of the most special days of the year to me. Today is for celebrating another year of having the sweetest man I've ever known to call my own. I know, every wife says this about her husband. But truly, for me, he is just that. I won't go too in depth, but Josh has shown me what real love is in its truest form. From day one, he continually portrays what a friend, man, and partner should look like. His patience, understanding heart, faithfulness, forgiveness, and genuine love for everyone he encounters is what captured my heart. I'm blessed to call him my best friend.

Won't You Stay Awhile? | Rug DIY

I think this might be my new addiction. Since making this little rug, I already have a copious amount of other rug ideas I want to create. Thankfully, this project is pocket change. Here are all the details..

Supplies: rug (mine was $2.00 from Walmart), spray paint, masking tape, adhesive letters (I used 5 inch letters).

Start by choosing something fun to write on your rug. Carefully apply the letters, making sure they are as straight as possible. Use a ruler if it makes you more comfortable! After you've applied the letters, begin making a pattern with masking tape. I chose a chevron pattern. Then spray! I spray painted every other zigzag with one color, waited for it to dry, then repeated the process on the remaining zigzags with my secondary color. After all the paint is dry, remove all the tape and letters!

Valentine's Day Blog Crush | Outfit Post

You can imagine my excitement when the lovely Elsie picked me as her Valentine's Day blog crush! ModCloth chose to send four bloggers and their crush the same Valentine's Day dress to style on their blogs. Elsie and I both wore the pretty Violin Recital Dress. Its delicate lace detail and Peter Pan collar made me smitten the moment I tried it on. The Mister is fairly fond of it as well, which is always a plus. ;)
I chose to accent mine with warm earth tones and my favorite heels, which will be perfect for our relaxing Valentine's Day date. What are you wearing for Valentine's Day?

We've also filled the week with non stop photos (something you can never complain about), remodeling the shop one wall at a time, spending much needed time with the ones we love most, and have officially put our first deposit down on our very own loft. It will be completely renovated by the middle of the month and we can barely wait to move in. Life truly is so beautiful. I am the most blessed.

My Home Town | Antique Ventures

Today a sweet friend and I spent our afternoon gallivanting our favorite antique shops. We spent many an hour at these stores during our first school year together searching for wedding gems.

Growing up I always had the whole "when I get out of this town I'm going to..." mindset. This all changed when there was recent talk of packing our bags and heading over to Kansas. After much deliberation we set our minds to stay rooted in our Midwestern bliss for at least a few more years. Ever since our decision, I've really come to appreciate the charm and character this city holds. I'm also smitten with our neighboring towns with all their thrifting and antiquing treasures, not to mention all the breath taking photo shoot locations. I didn't want to keep all the hidden treasures to myself, so I've decided to add a new feature called "My Home Town" that will feature some of my favorite places our home sweet home has to offer.

Craspedia Flower DIY

Craspedias are easily my most favored flower. They were the main flower at our wedding and I couldn't imagine not having them flourish our special day. When I was looking to order Craspedias, I couldn't find fake ones ANYwhere online, and they weren't in any flower shops near our home town. I ended up ordering them from a lovely company (if you want to stress yourself before your wedding, order mail in flowers..oy). Thankfully, they arrived right on time and beautiful as could be. However, sometimes I really just want a vase of them without having to order a large bulk. This is where this sweet DIY comes in...

Supplies: Styrofoam balls, mustard yellow paint, floral stems

Pantry Supplies: Scissors/or wire cutters, paint brush.

Take the Styrofoam and stick the floral stems in securely. Paint them yellow and let them dry! Add something pretty, such as feathers, and place them in a mason jar. This DIY makes a pretty statement center piece, perfect for spring.

It's projects such as this that give me the substantial hope and desire that spring will come early this time around. We've had sweet teasers of 60 degrees a few times this week, and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. Warm weather is a guaranteed dose of creativity and inspiration. Once those sunny days hit, I can't help but feel this itch inside me to create. What sparks your creative streak?

Leather Feather Headband | DIY

A little DIY for you, my favorite readers.. xx

Supplies: Leather, embroidery thread, elastic headband.

Pantry Supplies: Needle, scissors, heavy duty glue (I used a heavy fabric glue).

Begin by cutting the leather into a small rectangle, roughly the size of the feather/ or leaf you want. Fold it in half, round the bottom and make the top a point. It should end up looking like an almond shape. Then, cut small, symmetrical slits on the sides. Round the bottom of each slit, making a slight gap. Repeat this process until you've cut out enough leaves for your headband. Then, sew stitching down the middle. I only did this step to two out of five pieces to give it a dose of character. Place them into the form you desire for your headband. To attach them to the band, stitch the base of each piece so that the thread will be hidden once they overlap. Top it off with a bit of glue on the tips so that they don't curl. Let it dry overnight and you've got yourself a headband all your own.

Current Obsessions | Pretty Details

It seems the older you become, the more you really start to appreciate the small, hidden details life has to offer. It's those little things that make something simple and ordinary, unique and full of character. Here are some of my favorite detailed finds this week..

This print by Norman Duenas is breath taking. It would make a beautiful tattoo.

I'm in love with something from free people; go figure. Those pretty little flowers give it such a unique touch.

The gold-toned tip at the toes on these shoes from Dealuxe are a small, but beautiful touch. Such a pretty detail.

Since I first laid eyes on the work of Sloan Photographers, I was instantly in awe.

These lovely photos are the product of a husband and wife team in CA. The romance and detail they capture in each photo is truly inspiring.

I love the subtle details of each of these rooms. Beautiful in their own simple way.

We hit the snowy trail to Wisconsin this weekend, and I must say it was a lovely drive. I took roughly 200 photos on the ride home. It was filled with beautiful, open space. I think what I adore most about this photo is that with a slight cropping, it would be nothing but foggy white. Some of the most beautiful details are the smallest kind.

Surprise Birthday Road Trip

I've officially kidnapped my husband. I've been planning a little birthday get away for Mr. Mhire for weeks now and I'm so happy it's finally here. Last night I snagged him up, car fully packed, and told him he's not allowed to ask a single question. I really love surprises (the good kind of course), so this isn't the first time I've forced him on a spontaneous endeavor. He has sweetly abided by all my rules; such a sport. Our first stop was St. Louis. We are successfully three hours into our second destination and he hasn't a clue of what's in store, which I'm secretly very pleased about.

Vintage Inspired Hairpiece | DIY

I've always had a fancy for vintage wedding hats and hair pieces. This DIY is inspired from a vintage hairpiece but with less formal supplies, making it an easy wear for a more casual occasion.

Supplies: Thin wool or velvet, needle & thread, hair combs.

Pantry Supplies: Scissors

1. First, cut out petals and circles to create the flowers. Make various shapes and sizes so that your piece will have lots of dimension. 2. Once you've cut out enough shapes, begin forming and sewing the flowers together. I used 5-6 petals for each flower. 3. Continue this process until you've made enough for the hairpiece. I made three large flowers and two small ones. Once you've finished sewing all the flowers, lay them out in the pattern you want so you can get an estimate of the length and size you would like the finished product to be. 4. Then, cut a strip of wool/velvet that is slightly shorter than the length of the flower layout. Turn your flowers right side down and stitch them onto the strip. Lastly, add the combs on the back. I chose black because of my hair color, but for lighter hair colors try a clear, plastic comb!

Lace Heart Cardigan | DIY

I've been itching to share this DIY for two weeks now. Hope you enjoy!

Supplies: Cardigan, (mine was thrifted), lace.

Pantry Supplies: Scissors, paper, sewing pins, sewing machine or needle and thread.

1. Take your cardigan and lay it out on the table with the back facing down. Place the lace down on the inside, making sure it is smooth with no wrinkles and pin it in place. 2. Turn your cardigan over so that the lace is now facing down. Take a piece of paper and cut out the size of heart you want and place it on your cardigan. 3. Take sewing pins and pin all the way around the heart. Be sure the pin goes through the lace as well. 4. Sew right on the inside of the pins to make your heart. Don't have a sewing machine? Don't be discouraged! Take the few extra minutes it takes to hand stitch it. :) 5. CAREFULLY cut out the heart on the inside of the stitching. Don't cut the lace underneath! 6. You're finished! Remove all the pins and enjoy your newly renovated cardigan.

I've gotten some rather sweet emails asking why I don't post more photo shoots on my blog. While photography is one of the biggest aspects of my life, I've come to realize Sincerely, Kinsey isn't necessarily a place that I want to lavish with photo shoot results. I'd rather focus more on my unending love of all things fashion and DIY related. That being said, I couldn't bare to keep these photos all to myself. I hope you enjoyed taking a peek.

We're off to have a day full of productiveness, an over due dinner date with a dear friend, and hopefully convincing the Mister to try out a new shop with specialty teas. Wishing you the happiest of weekends.

Bless This Nest DIY

I've had a real soft spot in my heart for creating things for the home these days. Here is a simple chalkboard and frame DIY to give your walls a touch of personal character...

Supplies: wooden board, chalkboard paint, spray paint, large hemp or rope, chalk, sticks/branches.

Pantry Supplies: scissors, paintbrush, wood glue.

First, you'll paint your board with the chalkboard paint. While it's drying, begin spray painting all of the branches/sticks. After they're dry, put them in the form of a frame; 2 or 3 for each side. Make sure before you begin attaching the ends that it is the size of your board. Once you've formed it into the frame you would like, take the hemp and begin securely wrapping it around all four corners. Then, apply wood glue all along the edge of your board and place facing down onto the frame. Let it dry for an hour or two.

Once it's dry, all you have left to do is write something sweet! Hope your day is nothing but wonderful.

Birds on a Branch Necklace DIY

As promised, here is a simple necklace DIY...

Supplies: paint, large jewelry hoops and matching chain, two small birds (you can find them in the floral section at a local craft store) , and a stick/twig.

Pantry Supplies: Jewelry pliers, paintbrush, and wood glue.

First, paint your stick white. I made my very splotchy to give it a more rustic look.

Then, attach the hooks to the end of the stick. You'll want to purchase the largest hoops available, that way they won't be too small and you can always shape them to the stick. Make sure you secure the chain on the hoops BEFORE you put the ends of the hoops back in place.

Lastly, take wood glue and attach your love birds!

Before I start writing anything remotely post related, I have to ask a silly question..

So this weekend Josh and I were enjoying dinner together at one of our favorite restaurants. Suddenly, I had this overwhelming sense of happiness and had the urge to yell out, " I am so happy!". Don't fret, I most definitely did NOT do so. If you only knew how shy I really am you would know this is the last thing you would catch me doing. I asked him if he ever felt like that and only replied with a sweet smile. I think he knew it was a bit of a silly gesture. Have you ever felt like this? Please reassure me that I'm not the only crazy that has sudden urges such as this. :)

On that note, we had a lovely weekend. We had a candle lit dinner at 1am, danced to our wedding playlist, got our first tattoos, fabric shopped, went on dinner dates, ran into old friends, edited photos, wrote music, and most importantly, made memories. How was your weekend? xx

Cork Coasters DIY

Here is a quick and easy DIY to do on a lazy weekend...

Supplies: cork circles (I found mine in the floral section at our local craft store), fabric, paint.

Pantry Supplies: craft glue, scissors, and paint brushes.

You can either paint your coasters, apply fabric, or both! If you're planning on painting them, I suggest painting them a base coat of white. Even if you're planning on covering the entire coaster with another color, the white base coat makes the other coats, despite the color, really pop. Once you've done that, give it a design! I'm a free handed style painter myself, but feel free to tape off selected areas if it makes you feel more comfortable. If you want fabric covered coasters simply apply craft glue to the top of your coaster, (I used a paint brush to make it an easier applicant). Then, slowly press fabric onto the coaster, making sure there are no wrinkles. Once it's dry, cut off the excess!

This would be a lovely house warming gift for any sweet friend of yours.

I'm surprised really. I would normally be downhearted and dreary this time of year. I'm a fair weather type of gal so you can imagine how I feel when a good snow rolls around. The winter has not been kind to me in the past, but on the contrary, I am feeling an ample amount of inspiration these days. I have a hunch since these chilly days have prevented me from taking my normal amount of photos, it's been the source of my creating projects on a daily basis. It's been a really nice creative outlet, something I've realized I will always need in my life. Lately, I've been drawn to painting and catch myself automatically gallivanting straight to the paint aisles of every craft store I visit.

I fell in love the moment I was introduced to Dahlia. Dahlia Fashion is the creation of two sisters with exquisite style who pay attention to delicate details. I would be the happiest of girls if all of their dresses magically appeared in my closet. Confession: I'm secretly hoping my husband reads that last statement..

Speaking of prints, Mr. Nashgill's work has always had a soft spot on my heart.

Husband style at its finest. Last time I took a trip to Kansas City, Josh wasn't able to come with. Thankfully, we are planning a road trip there for Valentines Day so raiding the racks at H&M will definitely be on our to do list.

I promise I won't mention her in every current obsession post. But let's all be honest, Zooey Deschanel is worthy to obsess over. A New Girl episode and a cup of peppermint coffee have become a frequent evening occasion for me.

Golden Geometric Necklace

I'm notably pleased with the outcome of this piece. Its soothing color pallet and modern shape are sweet to the eye. Here's all the details..

Golden Geometric Necklace

Supplies: paint chips (1-3 different colors schemes), necklace chain, and matching jewelry hooks.

Pantry Supplies: scissors, jewelry pliers, and needle or sewing pin.

First, cut out triangles in different colors. You can make it all the same color in different shades, or mix different color schemes together. I chose three separate colors.

Next, you'll make the holes for the chain by poking each corner of the triangle with your needle/sewing pin. The only triangles you won't make holes in all the corners are the bottom two. They will only require holes in the top two corners. I highly suggest laying out all your triangles to see what the pattern looks like before you begin piecing it together.

To begin connecting your chain, space out the triangles and start adding hooks at the appropriate spots. You will want the corners touching but not overlapping so that the next row lines up perfectly. Your first row will look like the photo above.

Then, begin adding the next two rows.

The middle row will require double hooking in some areas to connect the top and middle row.

Maps, globes, and telescopes.

Lately I've had a thirst for maps and globes of all sorts. It's most likely just a small case of wander lust, but I'm indulging in the obsession none the less. I actually found one that I swooning over at an antique shop last summer that I believe is the culprit for my spark in interest. Here is simple DIY on taking a map, new or old, and giving it some character all your own..

Supplies: frame, map (I found my at a garage sale last summer, but teacher supplies store are always a good place to look if you can't thrift one), paint, pins, fabric or scrapbook paper.

Pantry Supplies: paint brush, craft glue or masking tape.

First, measure your frame to your map. You'll want to tape or glue it to the back and cut off any excess so that you can't see it from the sides. Then, paint! You can paint anything you like on your map. I chose, "let's go on an adventure".

While the paint is drying, cut out hearts with either fabric or paper. Once it's dry, you'll pin these hearts on the places you would like to travel to most.

My first choice would be India and Josh's first choice is the Philippines. We're hoping to plan a far off adventure in the near future, *fingers crossed*. Until then, I will be filling my map with countless amounts of hearts. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? xoxoxo

Book Store Adventures

We ventured to our beloved local book store last week for a little winter voyage. I discovered this gem of a shop my first year of college and was smitten at first sight.

Rabbit Trail: If you weren't previously aware, I take photos, Josh makes music.

Hence, we found the photo quite befitting to our liking.

Every time we visit I feel a sense of inspiration. Its endearing charm captivates your heart with every turn. There is also a darling antique shop in the back where they treat you with their homemade iced tea while you gallivant the aisles. In my modest opinion, it's the most magical place in all the Midwest.

Vintage Inspired Repurposed Sweater

Ever find a plain ole jane, yet cheap as can be sweater? If you're anything like me, you've rummaged across them countless times while thrifting your favorite shops. I'll confess, I gave in and bought one for a break-the-bank total of $2.00. But only with the purest of intentions to make this little number..

Vintage Inspired Repurposed Sweater

Supplies: Sweater, buttons, cotton base fabric, & embroidery thread.

Pantry Supplies: scissors, iron, needle, and sewing machine if available.

First, take your fabric and cut out two circles for elbow patches and sew them on with embroidery thread. I made mine with a 3 1/2 in. diameter. *tip, put your sweater on, bend your elbow and mark with a sewing pin where you want to put your patch.

Next, you'll make the collar. You'll want to have a total of four pieces, (back and front for each side). The size of your collar is merely up to the wearer. I made it 2 1/2 in. height at it's highest point, and 7 in. across.

To sew your collar together, simply face the two outside sections inward, stitch all the way around except for a small gap so that you can turn them right side out.

You'll stitch this hole when you sew the collar onto the neckline. I would suggest making the hole end up towards the top, far side of your collar, making it the least visible when you stitch it onto your sweater. Make two of these and iron them down flat.

Then, begin attaching the collar by pinning it in place on the neckline and make one long stitch on the top. Lastly, you'll attach the buttons from the neckline down. Here is a before and after photo!

There you have it. This has quickly become one of my most dearly cherished closet elements.

Vintage Shirt + Wander Lust | Outfit Post

This recent warm weather has made it feel like anything but January, which I am thoroughly okay with. We spent yesterday taking a few fun photos on the back roads by our home. There is something enchanting about driving without a set destination. Almost like a rejuvenating adventure, for those with a small case of wander lust. We stumbled upon a pretty shaded road and an abandoned log shed that so happened to catch Josh's eye. He so sweetly asked if we wanted to explore it. Needless to say, I was happy to oblige.

I've got a couple DIYs and some photos up my sleeve this week that I can't wait to share with you this week. That being said, hope your day is nothing but splendid.

Reminiscing 2011

Instead of giving you my lists of goals, (believe me, I have lots) I thought I'd reflect on some of my most favorite memories of the past year...

My sweet nieces, Austyn Monroe and Emille Annalise, were born just a few weeks apart. They are both beautiful from head to toe. We are beyond blessed to invite them into this world.

I started working at Red Velvet Art for Elsie & Emma. It's a dream come true kind of job. I couldn't ask for a more inspiring, creative atmosphere with such loving, generous bosses.

I'm lucky enough to call this girl my best. She understands me more than anyone I've crossed paths with. We've had countless laughs, talks, cries, and encouragement from one another. I couldn't call this the best year I've ever had without her in it.

I've had the privilege of photographing 11 weddings and over a 100 photo shoots this year. I've been stretched, strengthened and have learned so much with photography. I'm doing things a bit different in 2012, and I'm really looking forward for the upcoming adventures. The next couple of months I'll be posting more photos from previous shoots since it's not busy season due to the winter weather. Though it's hard to choose, here are a few of my favorite shots from this past year...

And of course, this man said I will love you forever and vouched it with a ring on a pretty May evening underneath a tree. I won't go into too much detail, but I wouldn't be half the person I am today if it wasn't for him. I wouldn't trade the memories we've made and the love we've shared this year for all the money in the world.

We celebrated the New Year with our two favorite people under a fort we built in the living room, drinking sparkling grape juice, and talked about goals for the upcoming year. I wanted to start a little tradition of listening to a song as soon as it hits midnight that so that we would think of NYE every time we heard it from then on. We chose this tune...

So here's to you 2011, you've been pretty swell to me.

It's official. We are getting inked this month. I'm an even combination of excitement and nervousness. It's going to be on my spine...yikes. But it will be well worth the payoff.

LF Look Book's are stunning to say the least.

I got an Urban Outfitters gift card for Christmas and I have a feeling it's going to go towards this pretty little rug.

I've had a crush on Anette Pehrsson's work for quite some time now. Her work captivates the eye and charms the soul. Her photos have not yet ceased to amaze me. A hunch I've got is that one of her prints will be hanging on my wall sooner than later.

Oh, and this video. I could be wrong, but I believe the boy in the video heard First Aid Kit was putting on a small show, but by the time he got there they were already done playing. But they so sweetly played one more song (that just so happens to be one of my favorites) just for him. One more reason to find them positively adorable.

Jewelry Display | DIY

I've found quite a joy in nesting these days. I catch myself day dreaming of home associated projects that are thriving on character, just waiting to be created. While most of them are jotted down in my notebook full of scribbles, waiting for a more appropriate location (for some odd reason, rented spaces don't appreciate a creative coat of paint or walls being torn out...hmpf), I've slowly but surely started to cultivate our happy little space into an inventive one at best.

As to follow my little spiel, here is a simple DIY, perfect for that little nest of your own...

Book Jewelry Display DIY

Supplies: Book, (preferably one that isn't too thick so that it lays as flat as possible when you open it). Knobs, small 10lb hooks, and *optional* photos + swatches.

Pantry Tools: hammer, pen, and screw driver + large screw.

First, mark with a pen where you want your knobs to be.

Then drill holes where you made marks for the knob placements.

Then you'll put the knobs in! This might take a few minutes to wedge them in there but it's definitely best to have the hole a tiny bit too small so that once they are in, they don't fall out.

Next, you'll apply two small hooks (the 10lb hooks should work perfectly!) onto the back, top corners of your book.

Last, decorate! I chose some paint swatches I had lying around from a previous project that just so happened to be some of my favorite shades. I also threw on some of my most cherished photos from this past year.

Hang it on the wall where you can easily access your prettiest of accessories.

Leather Feather Necklace | DIY

I've come to the conclusion that I am partial to making D.I.Y. necklaces. Hope you enjoy this one!

Supplies:

Leather, embroidery thread, feathers, leather cord.

*tip* look for bags of scrap leather at your local craft store! It's always a lot cheaper and has some great quality pieces.

Plus, craft glue, needle & scissors.

First, cut two strips of 4x1 inch leather. Then, make a pattern with thread on the top of one piece of leather. I did a simple stitch all the way around and a criss cross pattern in the middle. After that, you want to attach your leather strand or chain by gluing it on the back of your leather strip. Next, you'll attach the feathers to the back piece of leather by covering the back piece with glue and lay out your feathers in the pattern you want. Then, apply another layer to the back of your front piece of leather and secure both leather strips together.

Today has been full of last minute shopping, coffee runs, ugly Christmas sweater parties, and spending time with the ones we love the most. Hope your Christmas Eve Eve is perfect.

Painted Apple Centerpiece

This DIY is beyond simple and uses items you already have around the house!

All you need is paint, paint brushes, and apples. I used real apples that were going to go bad soon, but you could always buy fake apples so that you won't have to throw them out!

1. Paint your apples a base color. For this one I chose white.

2. Then decorate!

3. Paint the rest of your apples in fun, creative patterns.

I added them in a bowl with pine cones and leaves. This is perfect for a last minute Christmas party to add some festive, wintery decor!

Christmas Party Dress

I'm in a really good place these days..

Just about every second of the past three months I've been a busy little bee. While I was able to have some phenomenal opportunities, meet some really creative folks, and capture once in a life time moments, it's really nice to sit back, relax, and enjoy it all. The past week I haven't edited a single photo (okay, that might be a tad stretch) and have made lots of crafts, memories, and thought of fresh ideas. Sometimes I have to remind myself that breaks are a good thing. This holiday season is a really special and momentous one for me. It's Josh's and my first Christmas as husband and wife and my two sweet nieces' first Christmas as well. I have a feeling it will be one of my most favorite months yet of my little ole life.
On that note, here is a recent thrift find I would tag as Christmas party worthy. ;)

Holiday Gift Ideas

This year it seems there are more gifts to buy than ever. Not that I'm complaining. It's honestly one of my most favorite things about the season. Thinking of gifts and finding the best thing to fit that person is a holiday high for me. The only dilemma I seem to run into is actually thinking of what gifts to get. I assumed I wasn't the only one lost in this predicament, so I thought I would share a few ideas I've had along the way..

For the Mister...

1. These Minnetonka mocs are a must have. 2. This nifty Moose phone case. (I might just have to get one for myself..shh.) 3. And these one of a kind suspenders and belt.

The best friend/sister...

1. This ship in a bottle necklace. 2. A Very she & him Christmas album is sweet to the ears. 3. Oh, and this dress that I'm kind of head over heels for.

Truthfully? I would gladly receive any of these gifts for myself. But I reckon I can be selfless enough a give them away..maybe. ;) How's your shopping coming along?

Bird Nest Necklace | DIY

Today's DIY is a bird nest necklace. It's simple to make and perfect for last minute gifts. Here's how to make it...

First, take your wire and begin twisting it around three beads to form a small cluster. These will be the eggs in the nest. After these are secure, begin wrapping the wire around the beads to make the nest. Wrap in a circular form getting wider and wider to make the nest bigger. Also, intertwine the wire throughout to fill gaps and make it more secure so to not bend out of shape.

Once you've got the shape and size nest you want, leave 2-3 inches of the end to make a loop at the top for a chain.

Rug Clutch

As promised...

Here's what you'll need to make your very own rug clutch: scissors, needle and thread, button, and small rug.

First, take your rug (mine was thrifted for $1.00) and fold it so that the back fold is about 1/5 longer than the front fold. The longer fold will be the back and flap of your clutch.

Then, sew up the sides of the clutch. You can do this with a sewing machine but I did it by hand to show how simple it is even if you lack a sewing machine. It only took about five minutes.

Then, taking the flap (the extended part of the back fold), cut a small hole that will let your button fit through but still small enough that the button will be secure. Then hand stitch all the way around the hole so that it won't fray.

Last, you'll sew on the button of your choice to the outside of the front fold lined up with the button hole so that it fits perfectly! This project was so simple and only took about 10 minutes to create. Happy crafting! xo, Kinsey.

Maxi Dress

I've always had a fancy for maxi dresses, but whenever I consider wearing one I always feel the need to wait til summer rolls back around. There is just something about them that yells summer picnic and warm evening walks. But alas, I couldn't resist any longer and had to pull one out from the back of my closet and cozy it up a bit.

I wore my favorite maxi dress and paired it with a recently thrifted sweater and some moccasins. It was perfect for a coffee date night with my sweet mister. Outfits as cozy as this (plus a dose of hot coffee) make me think winter and its chilly weather are much more durable.

Feather Headband

This is a simple DIY for a leather headband! Here's what you'll need..

Leather cord, feathers, beads (large enough for both ends of your leather to fit through).

Also, scotch tape and scissors.

First, put both ends of the leather through a bead and slide it up. This is how you will adjust the size of the headband. To add feathers to the end, first you'll want to add a bead (one on each strand). Then securely tape the feather(s) to the end of your strand.Then slide the bead down to cover up the tape.

We made two headbands and intertwined them. This project is very simple to make and is basic enough that you can use any color, cord, or feathers to make it unique to fit your style!

This weekend we took a shopping roadtrip to Kansas City, held a photography booth at a business convention, and made lots of DIY's for the week! What did you do this weekend?

Red Vintage Dress

I love taking someone's trash and turning it into treasure. My current guilty pleasure is thrifting between editing breaks and running errands. Here is a dress I thrifted last week for $3.00..

In changing this dress I cut off a foot at the hem, making it knee length. I also added a cardigan (JCPenney), belt, scarf (both thrifted), necklace (Forever 21), tights (Target) , bag (gifted), and favorite pair of shoes (sale rack, local shop). All items that I already had in my closet!

This photo is so special to me. My sweet, sweet mother-in-law gave me this purse that her father made for her mother. My wedding rings also belonged to Josh's grandmother. They are so special to the family and I am honored to have them in my care. I truly wish I could have met her. Rumor has it, she was a lovely lady.

Hopefully this is a small sense of inspiration in keeping your eye out for some hidden treasure. Hope your Monday was perfect.

Quilting Hoop Wall Art

I always seem to be changing my wall decor. Apparently, I'm indecisive to say the least. There is just a wonderful feeling when you change it up around the house. I've noticed I tend to most when there is a happy change or surprise in my life. My walls are usually one step behind me.

Here is a DIY I came up with for creating some fun, simple art for your walls. Here's how to make it....

Supplies: Quilting hoops (you can find at your local craft store), fabric, scissors, glue, masking tape, and tacks.

1. First, your hoops should have two separate pieces. You'll take the inside piece and simply place it on top of your spread out fabric. Cut around the hoop, leaving about an inch longer all the way around. You'll want it be at least long enough to wrap onto the inside of the hoop so that the wood isn't showing when you're finished.

2. The outside hoop has a small metal piece that I simply either snapped off or bent down. I taped the edges together to secure it and repeated step one.

3. Once you've cut the fabric out, you'll begin to glue it to the hoop with the pattern facing out. Glue it to the outside first all the way around and then glue the excess to the inside, making the edge of the fabric hidden.

4. Repeat! Repeat! Repeat! Until all your hoops are finished.

5. Then, make a fun pattern on the wall!

You can use as many or as few as you like. Get creative and use products other than fabric. On one of my hoops I used thick hemp. What else do you think would be fun to use? I'm tempted to make a fox silhouette on the big teal one. :)

Christmas Wishlist

For the first time last night we braved the crowds to do a little Black Friday shopping. Surprisingly, it was actually quite enjoyable. We ran into some old pals and got a few fun bargains. I always seem to forget how fun Christmas shopping is; making lists, keeping secrets, and getting Christmas lattes in between shops. I hadn't really thought of anything I wanted for Christmas until last night, but it got my mind rollin' and I've been wish list shopping all morning. ;)

I'm in pure adoration of this dress. I have a slight addiction to buying white, lace dresses. If you looked in my closet you will find countless of them. I just can't help it.

Jewelry lust.

Josh and I have been talking about tattoos lately. I've wanted one for quite some time and I've finally had one on my mind for about a year now.

I'm a firm believer that you can never have too many boots.

I've been looking for one of these for so long and have yet to find one that I love.

The fringe. I'm just smitten.

Everything about this outfit has me written all over it. Swoon.

Husband + wife all day dates are the best days of the week.

Maybe I'm slightly bias, but my husband has the best style. He's so sweet to take a few pictures with me. Today is full of editing photos, watching our favorite t.v. shows, and making waffles. Not a bad way to end the weekend at all.

Marriage Bliss

I am over joyed to say that today marks six months of pure marriage bliss. Sometimes I'm taken back by the journey we've had together thus far. I still can't believe that the sweet, dark eyed boy that I met in Chicago would one day being saying his "I do's" for me under a tree one warm summer evening. I am blessed, and that is saying the very least. I can happily say we will be side by side for the rest of our sweet existence.

Dream Catcher Necklace DIY

Here is simple DIY on how to make a dream catcher necklace. ENJOY!

Supplies: Fabric, necklace chain, leather cord, metal hoop, and dental floss.

First, take your leather and begin wrapping it around the metal hoop. I added a little bit of hot glue at the starting point to make it secure. Continue wrapping the leather until it is all the way around the hoop and secure the other end with a small dot of glue as well.

Then, you'll take the floss and begin wrapping it around, fitting it between the leather strips. Continue until you have the pattern you desire.

Next, you'll take fabric and cut small strips to tie onto the end of your dream catcher. This part really defines what style your dream catcher is. I chose a dull, striped fabric. You could use a pretty lace or floral print to make it more girly. Lastly, you'll hook a simple chain through the top of your dream catcher. I used a chain I already had from a necklace I never wear anymore.

And there you have it! A similar version with smaller hoops would be so cute as earrings. Happy crafting!

Apple Pie

My sweet friend Erin invited some of us gals over to bake some mini pies. They are positively adorable and so fun to make, not to mention they taste pretty good too. Here are a few shots from our pie making adventure.

Erin used this recipe to make them. A nice warm pie was the just the right match for this cold weather. Speaking of, it snowed for the first time yesterday afternoon. Time flies faster than ever these days. Where did fall go? I am all the sudden in the mood for snowball fights, hot cocoa, cozy blankets, christmas lights, and all the smells that go along with the holidays. Looks like I'll be doing some candle shopping this weekend. :)

Mustard Sweater Dress

I am head over heels for this sweet little dress. It caught my eye at a local thrift store a few weeks ago. It's perfect for these chilly evenings we've been having lately.

Mixing blacks and browns is probably one of my favorite color combinations, especially for fall. It's a sweet mix of classy and casual.

Chevron Moccasins DIY

There is nothing more sad than ruining a good pair of mocs. I feel like a month after buying them the suede gets so discolored. But instead of pitching them for a new pair, why not give some character to the ones you already have!?

SUPPLIES: Old pair of moccasins, masking tape, paint, and a paint brush.

First, tape off the pattern you would like to paint. I chose the simple chevron pattern. Then begin painting your first color. Let it dry at least 80% of the way, then take off the tape and begin painting on your second color. You will then want to let it dry 100%. This all depends on the paint you used, but mine took only about 10 minutes.
